Abia Varsity: ASUU, NASU SSANU Reject Percentage Salary Starting June, 2020

Senior and junior staff of the Abia State University have rejected the directive of the management to accept 30 per cent of their salary starting with June payment. The varsity recently opted to start a new salary structure called percentage payment, with no clear explanation for its intensions

The workers who were represented by their campus based industrial trade unions, namely, the Academic Staff Union, ASUU, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, the Non-Academic Union of Allied and Education Institutions, NASU,and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, said they would not accept “any percentage payment in whatever guise as we feel it is an insult to the sensibilities of workers in Abia state university”. They said they are aware that the state government recently released the sum of N100m and the intention of the management to pay 30 per cent  of June salary,” was therefore inimical to their interest a.s workers
