6-month Old Marriage Crashes Over Husband’s Failed Conjugal Duties

Ekpo Okemini, Umuahia

An Ibeku Customary Court 1 sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital has dissolved a six- month old marriage between a couple because of the husband’s alleged failure to perform his conjugal duties.

Testifying before the court, the 30-year old lady told the court that throughout the period her 35-year old husband made no attempt to either touch or make love to her.

She complained that he goes to bed with his clothes on, adding that anytime she moved towards him, he would either push her back violently or pretend to be too tired for anything.

“In the alternative, if I refused to move back” the lady said, “he would walk out to the parlor where he would sit down in chair muttering inaudibly through out the night.”

She said she could not vouch whether he was a man or not as he never accepted them to do anything together such bathing together, dressing up or undressing before the other.

According to her, when she complained to his parents about the challenge, they appealed to her to keep the secret to herself and to exercise patience, hoping that it would soon be over.

The lady stated that to appease her, the parents always showered her with both financial and material gifts anytime they visited them, saying her husband was their only son.

She disclosed that the marriage had been arranged by one of her friends, who she latter learnt allegedly collected huge sum of money from the parents in-laws to convinced her to marry their son.

Dissolving the marriage the president of the court, J. U. Gbaruko, said following the husband’s failure to appear before the court after several adjournments, the court was compelled to dissolve the marriage.
