Prof. Best has formally declared his intention and ambition to run for the governorship of Plateau State in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. This declaration took place at a meeting of party leaders and officials, which held at the Mangu LGA Office of the PDP in Mangu, at the weekend. Barr. Timothy Parlong, a former Perment Secretary in the sate has also joined the race for the Rayfield House, Jos.
In attendance at Best’s declaration were the Central Zone Chairman of the Party, Hon. Benedict Shignugul, the LGA PDP Chairman, Mallam Naliti Nashop and the entire LG Executive of the Party. Also all the Ward Chairmen of the party and other key officials were present.
Also in attendance were the PDP Chairmanship candidate for Mangu LGA, Chief Burki Gufwan, and the Counselorship candidates of the Party in all the 20 state wards of the LGA. Grassroots mobilisers and respected elders of the Party across Mangu LGA graced the occasion.
Professor Best announced that he entered the race to raise the quality of the contest and give Plateau people the opportunity to be governed by leaders with sound ideas and programmes. He maintained that gone are the days when the state should be governed by less than average personalities and their crew. He added that he is in it with very good intentions and will make the state and its people proud by the charisma and quality of delivery that he will bring to governance.
He also reminded the party elders that since the inception of the state, Mangu with its large voter population, has only been good at supporting others to occupy the office, stating that it is now time for other LGAs to support Mangu, and called on them to be magnanimous and gracious enough to repay Mangu LGA in good coin.Prof. Best debunked the idea that he was running against the zoning principles of the state, and argued that the time for Mangu LGA is now, as there has never been any contest where only one Senatorial zone competes.
Moreover, he added, Mangu LGA is overdue for zoning having been kept out for long. The party officials welcomed the declaration and saluted the courage of Professor Best. They also stressed that by that decision, Prof. Best has made the LGA proud and a key contender in the race. They urged him to be a good ambassador of Mangu people as Mangu LGA will not let him down.
Also, against the back drop of the recent killings in Benue and Taraba states, a former Permanent Secretary and governorship aspirant on the platform of the People Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2019 poll in Plateau State, Barr. Timothy Parlong has urged peoples of the middle belt to the vigilant as that is the price of liberty and democracy.
Speaking to our correspondent during the week at Rwang street, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state, Parlong condemned the spate of unprovoked attack on innocent civilians in the geo-political zone.
He said since with the Benue and Taraba killings carried out in some villages, people will no longer feel safe in rural areas where they are likely to be hunted and butchered by gunmen who may never be identified, let alone apprehended. He said that the Benue attack leaves more to be desired.
“We encourage Muhammadu Buhari to take a bold step and fish out the killers of the Benue innocent souls. “, he said.
Hon Timothy Parlong said his experience as a career civil servant beginning with the administration of Chief Solomon Daushep Lar to that of former Governor Jonah David Jang had exposed him to so many intrigue of good governance .
